A Holiday Wish from the YWCA: Peace, Justice, Freedom, and Dignity for All People
Join us! The YWCA mission is to eliminate racism and empower women. By supporting us, you are giving the gift of affordable child care and housing for homeless women, children and families while at the same time being an agent for social change. This holiday season, the YWCA invites you to become a member, to volunteer, and/or to give generously.
Working together, we can build fulfilling lives, promote racial justice, and reinvigorate communities throughout the greater Baltimore area. Your generous donation today can help hundreds in our community tomorrow. From all of us at the YWCA, have a wonderful holiday season and thank you for your support.
YWCA Kids' Corner: Orioles, Moon Bounces and More
Thanks to generous YWCA sponsors, children from our childcare programs enjoyed some fun-tastic outings this fall. Kids from our Druid House Transitional Housing Program and our after-school programs attended an O's game at Camden Yards. Our heartfelt thanks go to the Orioles for donating tickets and transportation.
On October 24, 100 YWCA kids were treated to moon bounces, miniature golf, and carnival games at Confetti's, a party and event center in Towson. Gia Magliano, president of Baltimore's Best and Confetti's, generously hosted the day of FREE fun.
Vicki Sharif, the YWCA's CEO, notes, "These outings mean so much to our kids. And we couldn't do it without supporters like the Orioles and Gia who believe in us and give so generously."
'Tis the Season at the YWCA's Transitional Housing Program
The YWCA's Druid Heights Transitional Housing program is gearing up for the holidays and the New Year. T.Rowe Price, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Empowerment AME Church, the Baltimore Bar Association, and other generous organizations and individuals are donating gifts, food, and their time to help formerly homeless women and children at Druid have a joyful holiday season. Our housing staff reports holiday donations of toys, coats, gloves, and other items--as well as donations of school supplies, office supplies, arts and crafts materials, toys, and household goods, and financial contributions--are greatly appreciated and needed year-round. If you'd like to donate, please contact Dee Dee Ford or click here to make a secure, online donation.
125 Years of Service and Leadership
The YWCA Board paid special tribute to YWCA staff at its 125th annual membership meeting on September 13. In dedicating the proceedings to staff, Board President Janie Greenwood Harris noted, "You serve some of the most important, most vulnerable citizens in Baltimore and in the most challenging circumstances. But you've never given up on the YWCA or the women we serve. The Board is proud to lead this organization, but prouder still to follow this staff."
Looking Forward to the YWCA's Sixth Annual Leader Lunch
Leader Lunch 2008, the YWCA's annual showcase of women's leadership, was a resounding success, with a record-breaking crowd and stellar honorees. Preparations are well underway for Leader Lunch 2009, which promises to be an even bigger event. Stay tuned!
The Baltimore YWCA is committed to serving women and families in Baltimore City and Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, Howard and northern Anne Arundel counties.
